India tests 5G

India successfully tested indigenous 5G

Now India is one of the countries who have their own 5G technology. On the occasion of silver jubilee of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi launched a project called 5G Testbed .

On 17th may TRAI completed it's 25 years , on this silver jubilee PM launched Indegenous 5G Testbed .PM graced the occasion as Chief Guest through video conferencing and also released a postal stamp on TRAIs silver jubilee celebration.

PM said " It will also bring a positive change in ease of business, ease of living. All sectors including health, education, infrastructure, agriculture and logistics. This technology will make things easy and also generate employment opportunity".  "In 21st century, community will also determine the pace at which India progresses. It is therefore essential to modernise connection at all levels. I invite youth friends, researchers and companies to utilize the testing facility for making 5G technology" he added.

It will encourage Indian startups because, before this testbed , startups and other companies were required to go abroad to test and validate their products for installation of 5G network

The project costs 220 crore, is developed by milti institute collaboration of 8 institutes i.e IIT Delhi,IIT Hydrabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISc Banglore, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER) & Center of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT) with leadership of IIT Madras.

Department of Telecommunications (DoT) I funding a large scale 5G Testbed project. The project will create a 5G prototype and testing platform that will be developed under the guidance of IIT Madras faculty. Project will deliver an end-to-end 5G testbed comprising of 5G BS&UE nodes that supports enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , Ultra Low Latency Communication (URLLC) & massive MTC including NBIoT services. Operation frequency includes both sub 6GHz and mm wave frequencies. System will exceed IMT 2020 5G performance requirement including Low Mobility Large Cell (LMLC) .

According to PMO Testbed will enable a supportive ecosystem for Indian industries and startups which will help them validate their products, prototypes, solutions and algorithms in 5G and nextgen technologies.

This involves designing and fabricating of multiple high end components such as baseband processing units , remote radio heads , RF modules , core network , network interconnection and baseband algorithm & software.

After 2 days of its launch, Telecom minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnav successfully tested India's first 5G Audio and video call for which entire network was designed and developed in IIT Madras.

He tweeted on Koo " Successfully tested 5G call at IIT Madras, entire end-to-end network is designed and developed in India" . "This is the realisation of Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision. His vision is to have our own 4G,5G technology stock developed in India, Made in India and Made for the World. We have to win the world with this entire technology stock". He added.
